Festina Lente was a short-lived journal published by the Melbert B. Cary, Jr. Graphic Arts Collection at RIT, Rochester, New York. There were two issues produced: a sample issue and Vol 1, No. 1. Edited by the late Herbert H. Johnson (1936 - 2021), this journal is a hint at what could have been a great series. We have obtained a limited number of both editions in very good condition and they will be offered for sale until stock is depleted.

A) The Sample Issue, June 1979
Softcover 8vo, pp. 15, [1]; 24 cm. Letterpress printed stapled wrappers with extended (French) flaps. Title page in red and black. Contents: A Note on Our Objectives by Herbert H. Johnson -- A Note on the Name by David Lasko -- Prospectus -- A Note on the Cary Collection edited by Julie Sullivan. Issue set and letterpress printed in W. A Dwiggins's Falcon typeface.

B) Vol 1, No. 1,  February 1980
Softcover 8vo, pp. 39, [1]; 24 cm.  illustrations and facsimiles, mostly full-page, some 2 color, throughout; original tan (Silkscreen) printed wrappers, French flaps. 2 articles published: David J. Lasko's "Pinmarks, Nicks, and Grooves: some notes on the history of American typefounding"; and Herbert H. Johnson's "Unrecorded Books Designed by Bruce Rogers while at the Riverside Press, 1896-1914." This issue is set and offset printed in Garamond.
