According to wikipedia: The term ampersand is a corruption of and (&) per se and, which literally means "(the character) & by itself (is the word) and".
This print by Richard Kegler is a deceptively simple use of a single printing block. The split foundation fade from black/blue to pale yellow and inverted upon itself, ties the form into a knot and turns the ampersand shape into a flowing typographic abstraction flecked with imperfections of the vintage wooden printing block.
