Implode is the semi-official third in a trilogy that started with Burst and its companion print Incendiary. In contrast to the previous two prints, this one works from the edges towards the center.
For this print Richard Kegler primarily used large letter blocks from the Pollack Printing Collection that were previously cut in some seemingly random way. Each layer was locked up in the press against the perimeter edge of the form. The final layer of gold ink as well as the multiple layers vary in glossiness. The end result evokes something of a dense Dada/Cubist assemblage versus the direct Constructivist intention of Burst and Incendiary.
