10am-4pm
up to 4 participants
This two-day workshop will draw primarily from the Pollack Printing Collection at Dry Inc.
Select from thousands of large wood type letters and advertising blocks including the 70 line Cooper Black and single letters that take up a full sheet of paper!
Each participant will be guided through the composition and printing of a 2-color poster edition of their concept and design where one single letter or short word is the primary focal point of the poster. Included in the workshop fee is enough paper and ink to produce an edition of 25 poster/prints on Mohawk Superfine Cover up to 14" x 26"
Day One will introduce the letterpress studio with two flat bed cylinder presses and the Pollack wood block collection. Press makeready, color mixing, and proofing will take up most of the day. By the end of the day, the first color of a two color poster will be printed.
Day Two will add the second color to the poster as well as colophon or other final touches...and of course clean up and sitting back and admiring your work!
This workshop will be held using two flat bed cylinder presses: Our Vandercook Universal III AB P (included an automated carriage and paper delivery system) and our Reprex #2
Participants should be located in the Rochester NY area for the days of the workshop. Accommodations cannot be provided but suggestions and moderate assistance in locating accommodations will be provided as needed. Workshops will take place in the Historic Talman Building at 25 E. Main St. Rochester NY 14614
No experience is required and the basics of letterpress printing will be covered in this workshop. Depending on the experience level of participants, this portion of the workshop will be adjusted to optimize work time.
