This print has a dual purpose to function as a traditional type specimen but also as a stand alone artwork. The self-given brief was to make a Pop Art mandala in the style of the typographic experimentation of Kurt Volk's Gem Box, which was in itself a riff on a Klingspor foundry specimen. The 6 sizes (4,5,6,8,10,& 12 line) of Aldine wood type are likley from various manufacturers. Only one size was marked "Hamilton," however the subtle differences in some of the cuts give away the fact that they were made by others as well. In this collection of fonts, there were some letters damaged or altered (see the Bs.) Substitutes were made only in the case of fully missing letters
