P22 Type Foundry moved into the Talman Building in Rochester, NY in early summer 2019. The Talman Building contained the presses and publishing offices of several 19th Century newspapers, the most famous of which being Frederick Douglass’s abolitionist newspaper The North Star.
In tribute to sharing our printing space with such an iconic figure, we have produced a limited edition broadside series of three prints featuring Douglass quotes:
→ Without a struggle, there can be no progress.
→ It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.
→ Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.
50% of all sales proceeds will be donated to the ACLU in honor of
Fredrick Douglass.
Each print includes the colophon on a single line along the bottom of the prints: This broadside was printed in 2020 in the Talman Building, Rochester, NY—site of the original publication house of Douglass's North Star Press.
Each Broadside Features:
• 18" x 12"
• Red and black inks
• 118lb Boxcar Flurry Off-White cover
• Limited edition of only 100
• 50% of all sales proceeds will be donated to the ACLU
