This print is a hybrid of a found image block and reduction woodcut.

The block of Modern Pulverizing was likely made for a booklet advertising the merits of the No. 2 Dustless Pulverizer from the Schutz-O'Neill Co. of Minneapolis MN by the Binner Engraving Co. of Chicago IL. It is something of a mystery on how it made its way to the Dry Inc. studios.

The odd coupling of a classic Art Nouveau/Arts & Crafts park scene (in the style reminiscent of Will Bradley) and ominous Pulverizing machines makes for a fantastic post-modern study in image and type. The park scene itself seems somewhat pleasant upon first glance, but a closer look reveals what might be a threatening encounter about to take place! There is no additional information about the block or who the artist was, but it kept calling to be printed, so here it is!

Since the only block found was the black key block, it seemed like a great opportunity to try out a new set of wood carving tools to add background color.

The background was cut from a single block by Richard Kegler as a 3 color reduction block and printed in gradient tones.
